Aly Laurain Art

Hi! My name is Aly Laurain, I’m a senior at CU Boulder, and I’m studying media production with an art practices minor. From being the littlest I can remember, I’ve loved maximalism. From scribbling aggressively with crayons onto notebook paper as a five year old to collaging various pieces of trash into my journal at 16, I’ve always had a love for finding alternative ways to show the inner workings of my mind.

When creating, I enjoy using vibrant colors, varying patterns, and a variety of different art movements to coincide into my own unique style. This consists of cubism, abstract art, surrealism, digital art, and a melting pot of other art genres. Prevalent in many of my pieces is my connection with my childhood self. Simple drawn faces are seen throughout my works, the use of primary colors or scribbles similar to those seen on the very notebooks I would draw all over as a child, and my often refusal to start over or erase lines have remained habitual throughout my art journey.

Although I have always loved to create on paper/canvas, I’ve found myself fascinated with the world of Digital Art, especially fascinated with animation. One direction of digital art that particularly interests me is a motion graphic artist, specifically concentrating on creating sound-synced animations for EDM artists to display during their concerts. The whimsical, oftentimes hilarious animations have always been one of my favorite parts of going to raves, and are a key point of inspiration for my artwork.
