Brainstorm Blog #2

Blender might just be my worst nightmare. With its myriad of buttons and complex interface, it can feel overwhelmingly confusing. However, the rewards of using it are undeniable, and I’ve always been eager to explore the world of animation, so it’s thrilling to finally take this step. Before starting this unit, I had little understanding of how animation even worked. But now that I’ve begun using Blender, I’ve discovered that the process is surprisingly simpler than I initially thought. While memorizing all the different features can be challenging, I recognize that learning any new software comes with its difficulties. I’m hopeful that the learning curve will become less steep as I spend more time in Blender.

For the project, the idea of animating a living creature excites me. I was captivated by how the Build A Bird lab made the bird appear so lifelike. This has inspired me to create another bird, specifically a vibrant parrot perched on someone’s shoulder. I envision the parrot being extraordinarily colorful, with intricate details on its feathers to really bring it to life. To add a touch of humor and personality, I want the parrot to don a top hat and a bow tie. As for its movements, I prefer a more subtle approach – I don’t see the point in the parrot walking back and forth on someone’s shoulder. I imagine it only moving its head and perhaps a bit of movement in its midsection, allowing for a charming and playful animation without the glitchy look of the parrot going in and outside of the users’ head.
